| Under the sponsorship of the Swiss Chemical Society
(SCS), a Young Chemists' Association (Jungchemikerforum) was founded
in Basel. It aims to foster better contact between students (undergraduate
and PhD) and Post-Docs at Swiss universities and young chemists
in the Swiss chemical industry. This idea was first introduced in
Basel with the hope that further regional groups will follow.
In 2005, JCF became a section of the Division of Chemical Research of the Swiss Chemical Society.
Activities of the JCF include lectures held by young chemists
from all relevant fields of chemistry to give students an insight
into possible careers. Further, the ContactChemists careers fair
is a platform for interested companies to present themselves and
describe what their jobs entail as well as for students to meet
prospective employers. Monthly meetings and symposia give young
chemists the opportunity to present and discuss their scientific
work but also to forge new links.
A very important aspect of the JCF is that the activities should
not only boost scientific exchange but be an opportunity for young
people to get together and enjoy themselves in a more social environment.
